There's a “Helpful Tips and FAQ Recap Section” at the bottom of the page so you can maximize Search Engine Tracker™.

1. Q: Who should buy Search Engine Tracker™?
A: Anyone who owns a website! If you have a website then you “MUST KNOW” where you rank on a regular basis in order to compete online -- Period...

2. Q: How accurate is Search Engine Tracker™?
A: Search Engine Tracker™ is extremely accurate! It is as accurate as doing a manual search by typing keywords and keyword phrases directly into the search engines.

3. Q: How does Search Engine Tracker™ work?
A: Search Engine Tracker™ works similar to doing a manually search yourself. Instead, Search Engine Tracker™ does the laborious task and time consuming work for you automatically.
  1. You simply type in the URL(s), keywords, and keyword phrases that you want search ranking for in your personal administration area.
  2. Search Engine Tracker™ then conducts a search directly from the search engines chosen.
  3. Search Engine Tracker™ runs a report on the Rise and Fall of search engine ranking from your previous report. This includes your website and your competitor’s websites based on the URL’s and keywords you decide to run. This saves you countless hours of time performing this task manually, and time is money.
  4. Your ranking reports are emailed to you “every week”!
  5. All reports are saved giving you an opportunity to compare your position over time. This is tremendously valuable so that you can track your progress.

Tip: When typing in your keywords, keyword phrases or website addresses:
  • Don’t use commas (,) after keyword/keyword phrases
  • Use only one keyword or keyword phrase per line
  • Never include http:// in the web URL (you won’t receive data if you do!)
  • Our reports check for both domains (i.e. google.com) and subdomains (i.e. images.google.com), so there is no need to enter a subdomain.

4. Q: Do I have to install any software?
A: No, there is no software to install. You do not need to do anything on your computer. "All our reports are run exclusively from our own web servers. “There is no risk to you, your website, or your computer.”

5. Q: How many keywords and keyword phrases can I run at one time?
A: You can run up to 200 keywords and keyword phrases at one time. You simply type in a keyword/phrase on each line separately. You can do this by typing in your keywords/phrases and then hit enter to  go to the next line. (Remember, don’t use commas)

6. Q: How do I know which keywords/phrases to run the reports on?
  A:

Go to your website and read the content to determine which words your potential customers might type into the search engines to find you. You can also do this for your competitor sites to see which keywords are driving traffic to their sites.

a.       Copy and paste those individual keywords i.e. (gloves) or phrases i.e. (men’s baseball gloves) on separate lines in your Search Engine Tracker™ administration area. (Please remember, do not use comas and separate each keyword/phrase per line).

b.       Check the Meta Data on your site and your competitor’s sites. The Meta Data will reveal the Title Tag keywords, Description keywords and the Meta keywords. You can easily find these by simply right clicking outside the content area (not on an image) on any web page. Start with the index/home page first. You then click on View source in (Internet Explorer) and or (View Page Source) if you’re using Firefox browser. The Meta Data will always be located at the top of the source code pages. C For detailed iinformation check out the User Guide and/or our Video Tutorial.

Tip: Most individual keywords may be literally owned by the larger sites (Your competition) in your niche market. Some companies spend a small fortune with Pay Per Click (PPC) advertizing to get high ranking. Therefore, we recommend using keyword phrases whenever possible.

7. Q: Can I run reports on my competition’s websites?
A: Yes, Search Engine Tracker™ can monitor up to 3 competitor websites and give you side-by-side comparisons for each search engine. This gives you an incredible advantage and any advantage you can get on your competition is vital for your business success.

Tip: Remember, Do not type in http://. You may not receive data if you do!

8. Q: How long does it take to receive my first report into my inbox?
A: The first report may take up to one hour. All other reports will be sent automatically to your inbox on a weekly basis (every 7 days).

9. Q: How many positions/results does Search Engine Tracker run reports on?
A: 200 positions/results including sub-domains or roughly 20 pages if you are looking at 10 websites per page.

10. Q: How often can I run reports?
A: Your reports are run every 7 days from the day you signed up, and are automatically sent directly to your inbox.

11. Q: Why every 7 days?
A: We've determined that this interval is perfect for showing your rise and fall in ranking, and gives you time to:
  1. See the results between reports based on changes that you made in content including adding/deleting keywords and keyword phrases in your content.
  2. Add more inbound links i.e. did you have more sites, articles and directory sites link to your site from your last report? Keywords, inbound links and pay per click campaigns will change and affect your ranking. Monitoring your site ranking weekly is extremely important to monitor your position/ranking. It’s all about taking the guess work out of doing business online.
  3. Change or add meta-tags and meta-descriptions since your last report.
  4. Identify if your site is being crawled by the search engines.

Tip: Search Engines have what they call spiders. The spiders go out to each website and crawl your site gathering data to determine your ranking position. This is based on many algorithms (Mathematical formulas). Two of the biggest algorithms are:
  • Relevant keywords and keyword phrases
  • Inbound links i.e. how many people link to your site that have relevant content.

12. Q: Can I change keywords and website addresses between reports?
A: Yes you can. You simply login to your account and change or add keywords/ phrases and/or website addresses (URL’s) and click “Update”. This will insure that your next report will reflect the changes you made. Don’t wait until a few minutes before receiving your next scheduled report to change or add keywords/phrases or URL’s -- this is because the search engines may not have had a chance to crawl your site since your last update.

Tip: Please Note: You can see each website/ URL address for each keyword/phrase by simply hovering your curser over the Position Column number for each keyword.

13. Q: What does indexing by the search engines mean?
A: Indexing is when the search engines crawl your website with spiders that record data about your site and establish your position.

14. Q: Why is Search Engine Tracker’s position count different compared to when I check manually?
A: This can happen for a couple of reasons:
  1. It can happen based on the time that you ran your last report. Although, the difference in time might be slight, it can cause a difference in position based on when search engines crawl and update/index your site, which affects your position.
  2. It can also appear that the count is different because some websites have sub-domains i.e. maps.google.com or books.google.com. Our system counts a sub-domain as one position and Google doesn’t. So if you have a site with 1 sub-domain, Search Engine Tracker™ counts that as 2 positions.

15. Q: Why do some or all my keywords say “New” in Red and have no rise and fall number data?
A: There are a couple of reasons for this:
  1. This is most likely because it is the first time you have run a report on any given keyword/phrase or website address. Each time you add a new keyword/phrase or website address you will see “New”. The second report you run on a new keyword/phrase or website address “may” have rise and fall position data if your keywords position has changed in the search engines from your last report.
  2. It can also be that your website for a given keyword is ranking beyond 200 positions or over 20 pages deep. This will tell you that you have work to do in order to get higher ranking. Please check our Resource Pages to establish higher ranking.

16. Q: I received my first report and where is my data? I don’t see any? I typed in my keywords/phrases and website address and there is no data anywhere?
A: There are many reasons this can happen:
  1. Check to make sure you typed your website address correctly.
  2. Could be because your website is new and is not yet indexed by the search engines; therefore, there is no data to report.
  3. You may be using very competitive single keywords instead of using keyword phrases. Keyword phrases are less competitive than single keywords. Statistics show that you are much better off using keyword phrases and not relying on single keywords.

Example: “Jewelry” (single very competitive word and searched a million times a day vs. “Woman’s diamond ring with gold band”). That is not to say that this phrase isn’t competitive either, but you will have a better chance to rank higher with keyword phrases. We will be providing great articles on breaking this down in our resource pages to make things easy for you, so check back often.
  4. It could be because you accidently typed in your website addresses with http://. Search Engine Tracker™ will not work properly if you type http:// before your website address. *However, you may want to type in www. before your address only if you are checking the position on a website that has a sub domain before the actual website address as described above (#3 Tips), for example: www.sub.domain.com vs. domain.com As you can see, there are some occasions when this might be a good idea but only when there is a “dot something” before a domain name.

17. Q: I have a regional or local service or product type company. I’ve typed in my keywords and keyword phrases and I have very little or no data, but my competition has quite a bit of data. Why is that???
A: Chances are your competition is using city or state names with their keywords. First go check out your competition’s websites, read their sales copy and see if they are using city or state names in their content. Then try adding your city or state name before or in front of your main keywords in your sales content before running your next report. You may find that this could be one of the main reasons you are ranking lower than your competition. Keep in mind that it may take a while for the search engines to crawl your site and make rank/position changes. So don’t get discouraged if it you don’t see results right away -- as this is one of the many benefits of Search Engine Tracker™; it identifies and uncovers position problems -- knowing why is so valuable!! Just log in to your account, make the changes and click update.

18. Q: Why should I know where I rank in the search engines on a regular basis?
A: It is critical to know where you rank because the average user behavior studies show that up to 65 % of users do not go beyond the first page in the major search engines.

Additionally, you should spend an appropriate amount of time researching keywords and keyword phrases to make sure that you are including the most relative keywords for both search engines and people searching in your niche market. We will be providing additional information on companies that will help you in this area later in our resource pages.

A: Yes you will! Knowing where you rank gives you an opportunity to improve. Improving your position drives more targeted traffic to your site, which will ultimately generate more sales conversions. (Remember, statistics show that most people searching never go past the first page)  High search engine ranking also establishes credibility, trust and respect!

Helpful tips and a short recap from above:
  • Put in City and State names if you have a local or regional company in front of your keywords/phrases. Do this to your website content and your Meta data first -- then copy it from your website, as it is written, into your keyword box in your admin area.

  • Use keyword phrases: Statistics show that you are much better off using keyword phrases and not rely on single keywords. Example: “Jewelry” (single very competitive word and searched a zillion times a day) vs. “Woman’s diamond ring with gold band”.

  • Keep your website FRESH! And up-to-date! When Search engines crawl they look for fresh content. If they don’t see fresh content and site changes then search engines and people are likely to return less frequently. This is not to suggest changing keywords/phrases that are working; add new sentences and paragraphs, moves things around a little, mix it up. Give readers and search engines a reason to come back.
  • Write to your customers: Converting visitors to buyers is not always about pleasing the search engines. You have to write to your customers in their language and provide useful and valuable information that helps solve their problems.

  • Insert meta tags and meta descriptions: Make sure you have the appropriate meta tags and descriptions.) More on this later...

  • Over Deliver: When you say that you will do this or do that. Do it and surprise your visitors with more than they expect. They are more likely to buy if they think and believe they will get true value.

  • Header Tags: Make sure you use header tags. This is usually done by your website designer or found in your website building program. Some HTML required here. More on this later in our Blog and Resource Pages.

  • Use your keywords wisely: Do not overstuff your keywords! Google will penalize you for this. That’s an old trick that doesn’t work anymore.
  • Inbound Links: Make sure to have as many inbound links as possible. Volume is not everything though. It is recommended to stay away from “link farms” that promise a zillion back links to your site. Do this right. Build relationships, call people up and establish a long term business friendship. Write and submit articles to directories relative to your industry with links back to your site. Write and submit press releases. More on how to do this coming soon.
